In March 2025, the UK's Centre for Social Justice published a report entitled “The Lost Boys”, highlighting the consequences of a fatherless generation. The 60-page document explores family breakdown and multi-generational scarring. It reveals that fatherless children are the most vulnerable to lingering generational scars.
This phenomenon is only one aspect of family disintegration. Problems include domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, high suicide rates, missed educational opportunities and gang violence.
A broken fairy tale?
How did we get here? Couples who start a family don't envision a fleeting relationship. They all hope for a lasting union. Yet for many, this dream is crumbling. Several factors contribute to this situation: a lack of serious preparation, inadequate role models, and relationship and sex education influenced by social media.
Do our local churches have the power to change this? They could certainly play a crucial role in educating parents and children, accompanying families, and working to make family breakdown a relic of the past.
The question remains: will we take on this responsibility?

At YWAM (Faculty of Family Science), we offer courses to equip ourselves. The modules are now online in English, and soon in French. FJ also offers programs such as Tilt! (pre-teens). Together, we can set an example for our local community.
